William Howard “Dub” Cook, Jr. closed his eyes at his earthly home and opened them in his Heavenly home at 7:30pm on September 10th, 2023. Those golden streets were flooded with those that went before him, welcoming this good and faithful servant into the presence of his Creator.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 15th, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church, 834 W. Old Limestone Rd York, SC, with Mr. Tommy Arrowood and Pastor Billy Lingerfelt officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 1774 Filbert Hwy York, SC. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the committal.
Dub served his country via the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict, in which he was stationed in Germany. From there, he returned home to his family. Later on, in 1969, he worked at Homelite (a Textron company) as the parts manager until retirement.
One evening in 1958, on bended knees, his life of serving truly began. After accepting the Lord as his Savior, he then led the first of many souls to Christ, his wife, Joyce Cook. The next 65 years became a testament to God's love and the willingness of Dub to serve his Lord. He assisted in the founding of several local churches, Blessed Hope Baptist Church and School (which is now Liberty Church, York, SC), Bethel Baptist Church (York, SC), and Calvary Baptist Church (Clover, SC).
He loved the outdoors, fishing, and the occasional squirrel hunt. His lawn was a source of pride for him and he took care to ensure it was maintained. His front porch sitting was packed full of prayerful conversations with and about God.
Dub was known for being a kind and generous man, to those in his life and those around him, whether that was buying a stranger a meal or saying a prayer for someone in need, he was there as an example of Christ's love. He defined compassion as "love in action". Jude 1:22, "And of some have compassion, making a difference". A difference is what Dub made in this world and his legacy lives on through his 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, with which they had 7 children, Donna (Wayne) Wagner, William (Lynn) Cook, Becky Wagner, Vicky (Bill) Felstow, Lisa (Duane) Cook, Joni (Tommy) Arrowood, Joel (Amy) Cook.
