Early in the morning of October 31, 2024, Brice Stephenson took his last breath on this earth and stepped into his heavenly home. Born on August 21, 1940, in York, SC, Brice was the youngest son of the late Walter Frank and Lula Catherine Gettys Stephenson. Brice is survived by his loving wife Christine McSwain Stephenson, four children: CayLen Stephenson Whitesides (Everett), Chris Stephenson (Wendy), Sandy Stephenson Dickson (Mike), and Sherry Stephenson Whitesides (Mike); 13 grandchildren: Jacob Whitesides (Logan), Chad Whitesides (Kristin), Hannah Whitesides Bryant (Travis), Ethan Whitesides (Haley), Adam Whitesides, Bryson Stephenson, Peyton Stephenson, Tucker Stephenson, Michael Dickson, Emily Dickson, Alan Whitesides, Luke Whitesides, and Zack Whitesides; 9 great grandchildren: Kinley, Colt, and Everlynn Whitesides, Charlotte, Tritt, Carla, and Walker Bryant, Bowen and Lacey Whitesides; sisters Doris Stephenson Springs and Margaret “Sissy” Stephenson Howell, and many nieces and nephews. Brice was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Stephenson and his brother Rufus Stephenson.
Brice worked for many years at Bowater, along with farming on his beloved family land. Many early mornings, Brice and Christine have been seen in the corn or okra patch. Though he has struggled for several years with aches and pains, he was most happy on his tractor, attending York Football games on Friday nights, and spending time with family. He was known to share that he would have children and grandchildren at his house for Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the time, but sometimes the best view was the taillights heading down the driveway! Recently at a Wednesday night church time, he shared how thankful he was for his wife and all that she does for and with him. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. Their marriage was a reminder to all who knew them of what true love and a life together with the Lord as the center should look like.
Brice was a long-time member of Filbert Presbyterian Church in America. He was a member of the York High School Class of 1958 and firmly believed in staying connected to his classmates. While working at Bowater, he was an active representative for the United Paperworkers Union and served many years on the board for the Bowater Credit Union.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM at Filbert Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with funeral services on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 2:30 PM, also at Filbert PCA, officiated by Reverend Dr. David Hall and Reverend Wallace Tinsley. Graveside services will continue at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Family will receive guests at other times at 790 Owens Road, York.
