Walter Neil Smarr

Mr. Walter “Neil” Smarr, age 82, of York, SC passed away on Monday, June 17th, 2024 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 19th, 2024 at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy., York, SC, and other times at the family’s home. The funeral service will start at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Canaan UMC with Reverend Beth Drennen and Pastor Ken Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4810 Canaan Church Rd., Smyrna, SC 29743.

Neil was born on February 13th, 1942 in Hickory Grove, SC. He was the son of the late Wilborn Arrowood Smarr and Christine Bratton Smarr Vinson. He was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church in Smyrna, SC and was the owner and operator of Smarr Construction. Neil enjoyed spending much of his free time in his gardens and on the farm.

Neil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Moss Smarr; his children, John Smarr, Tim Smarr (Shannon), and Susan S. Ramsey (Kevin); his 7 grandchildren: Jack Smarr (Taylor), Matt Smarr, Brianna Beverly, Jake Beverly, Caroline Ramsey, James Ramsey, and Kate Ramsey. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Margie Smarr and Lucy Smarr, and his brother-in-law, Sam Feemster (Gay).

In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his siblings: Earl Smarr, Mary McKown, Harold Smarr and Glenn Smarr; his brothers-in-law, Mason McKown and Richard Fowler; his sisters-in-law, Nell Feemster, Glenda Smarr and Charlotte Fowler.
