Vernon Eugene "Chief" McHargue

Vernon Eugene “Chief” McHargue, age 75, of York, SC passed away on Thursday, May 16th, 2024 at his home.

Chief was born on April 28, 1949 in Batesburg, SC. He was the son of the late Vernon Dewey McHargue and Crystal Donelle Cooley McHargue. He was a retired lineman for Bell South and a proud US Army veteran having served our country in Vietnam. His love of music came from getting together with family and friends for jam sessions.

Chief is survived by his wife, Deborah Jean West McHargue, his grandson Bronson Shetley and his siblings Donna Elaine “Laney” Tuten, Dewey Dwight McHargue, and Phillip Rodney McHargue.  In addition to his parents, Chief was preceded in death by his daughter Crystal Shetley.

Per Chief’s request, he was cremated and did not want any formal service. A celebration of life will be at a later date.
