Tommie Faye Hoffman Plummer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to be with Jesus on September 23, 2026, at the age of 89.
Tommie was born on May 22, 1937, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to John R. Hoffman and Mary Ziegler Hoffman. She was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, alongside her beloved brother, Johnny, who preceded her in death.
Tommie was married to the love of her life, James Marshall Plummer. She made it her life’s passion to spoil him rotten for 56 years! Together they worked to fulfill their dreams, building a life in the country while working in the big city. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of love and devotion.
Tommie was a devoted mother to her two children, Jimmy Plummer (Janet) and Tonia Plummer Collins (Jeff). She was a treasured grandmother to Marshall Plummer (Natalie), David James Collins (Emily), and Kevin Thomas Collins (Makenzie) and a precious great-grandmother to Ryleigh Jane, Charli Grace, James, Judah, Solomon, and Asher. Her family was one of her greatest joys, and she loved them with her whole heart.
Throughout her life, Tommie worked in many different roles, always bringing her gifts and generous spirit to whatever she put her hands to. She served as the bookkeeper for her husband’s company, PS Heating and Air Conditioning. She ministered to senior citizens through the York County Council on Aging, ran a side business baking bread aptly named Manna from Heaven, and operated her own fine-clothing reweaving business, Tommie’s Reweaving. Later, she served in administration at Gas Appliance Sales, her son Jimmy’s business.
But Tommie’s greatest work was not found on a résumé. It was found in the countless lives she touched through the love of Jesus
Tommie loved her church family and was always willing to volunteer wherever she was needed. In her final position of service, she served as a greeter, making sure every person who walked through the doors felt welcomed—with a smile, a kind word, and, most importantly, one of Tommie’s famous hugs.
She spent her life as a prayer warrior, faithfully studying God’s Word both personally and through Bible Study Fellowship. Her relationship with the Lord was not simply something she talked about; it was the foundation of who she was.
Tommie had a generous and sacrificial spirit. She freely gave of her time, her resources, her prayers, and her love. When someone was hurting, she noticed. She would reach out, listen, pray over them, and often give them one of her favorite books, Jesus Calling, as a reminder of God’s presence and faithfulness. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. She welcomed people into her life with open arms and an open heart. To know Tommie was to love Tommie. Her life was a living testimony of what it means to love God and love others.
Although her family and friends grieve the tremendous loss of her presence, they rejoice in the assurance that Tommie is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and served so faithfully. The legacy of her faith, her prayers, her generosity, her laughter, and her unconditional love will continue through the generations she leaves behind.
Tommie’s life can be summed up in the words of Jesus:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself.”
— Matthew 22:37–39
She was deeply loved. She will be forever remembered. And she will be greatly missed.
