Sara Jane (Shirley) Hand

Sara Jane Hand, 84, of Chester, SC passed away on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, at her home after a lengthy illness and dementia.

Sara was born on November 29, 1938, in Chester County, SC. She was the daughter of the late William Jess Shirley and Dessie Ghant Shirley.

She was in nursing for many years throughout her life, a job she loved.  She unfortunately endured a car accident that left her handicapped, however that didn’t stop her caring heart and determination.  She cooked and cleaned for her brothers and twin sons over the years with her older sister, Katherine.  She loved her Zinnia flower bed she planted every spring and she loved spending time with her cats. She loved her kids and all of the grandkids.

She was very creative and could paint rocks to look like they were real. 

She is survived by younger brother, Roy Shirley, whom she resided with.  She is also survived by her daughter, Julie Curtis (Ronnie), twin sons, Earl Hand and Burl Hand, all of Chester, SC, a niece, Jessie Liang, a great niece, Jeannie Liang of California, also a grandson Eric Britton of Rock Hill, SC, a granddaughter, Holly Sloan (Robert), and three great-grandchildren, Holden, Macie, and Luke of Blackstock, SC.

In addition to her parents Sara was preceded in death by her siblings Edna Katherine Shirley, and Frank Moon Shirley.
