Sara Catherine Gardner of York died on January 29, 2025 at Spring Oak Senior Living in York, South Carolina at the age of 96.
A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill cemetery on Tuesday February 4th, 2025 at 2:30 PM officiated by Rev. Nick Setzer of First Presbyterian Church, with visitation immediately following the service.
Miss Gardner; a native of York was the daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Gardner and Mamie Stewart Gardner. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York where she was active in the choir for many years.
Sara was retired from the York County Branch of United States Department of Agriculture after 37 years.
Upon coming to First Presbyterian, she was active in women’s work and was a member of the Johnny Lundgren Circle. She was an active member of Sam Club (Senior Adult Ministry) and the Asbury Coward Literary Club. For some twenty years, she was a faithful volunteer at PATH (People Attempting to Help).
She is survived by a number of cousins and two special cousins – Jack Goforth (Brenda) of Cornelius, N.C., and Ruth G. Wilkerson of Honolulu, HI, and good friend Nancy Coleman, along with a number of friends.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Liberty Street, York, S.C. or to a charity of one’s choice.
