Ruby Ashe Norton passed away on January 17, 2024. The daughter of the late Hamilton and Maggie Ashe, Ruby Ashe Norton was born in November 24, 1929 in Jackson County, North Carolina. The youngest of seven brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by her six older siblings. For sixty-six of her ninety-four years, she lived in York, South Carolina. For many of those years, she owned and operated Norton’s Beauty Shop.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM – 3 PM on Sunday January 21, 2024 at Union Baptist Church, 1945 Ratchford Rd. York, SC 29745, with the funeral service starting at 3 PM. with Rev. Paul Willey officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
In addition to her work, she was actively engaged in her church and community. As a member of Union Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, directed the mission discipleship group Acteens for girls ages 7 to 12, headed the Women’s Missionary Union, often led the Lottie Moon Foreign Missionary Offering, and prepared Communion Services for many years. At White Oak Manor Nursing Home in York, she was instrumental in establishing a beauty and barber service for its residents. Among her many activities and hobbies, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and quilting.
She is survived by her oldest son, Terry Norton, of Rock Hill, her youngest son, Greg Norton, and his wife, Mary Lynn Norton, both of York.
