Roger Douglas Atkins

Mr. Roger Douglas Atkins, age 71, of York, SC, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Atrium Health Pineville in Charlotte, NC.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the Family Life Center at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 1184 N. Shiloh Rd., York, SC 29745. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary, with Reverend Thomas B. McPhail and Dr. Reverend John D. White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Roger was born on January 30, 1955, in Charleston, WV. He was the son of the late John Henry Atkins and Dorothy Lee Ashworth Atkins. He was a faithful member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church and cherished the time he spent outdoors hunting, fishing, and relaxing at the family cabin. Roger was affectionately known as “Papaw” to his grandchildren, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them and attending their sporting events and activities.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Kay Burford Atkins; his daughter, Denise White (John); his son, Scott Atkins (Tina); his grandchildren, Hannah, Kaci, Josh, Makenzie, and Brady; and his brothers, Rusty Atkins (Virginia), Gary Atkins (Connie), and Dale Atkins.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Atkins.
