Robert Alfred McDowell, 98, of York, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30th 2026 at Lake Wylie Assisted Living in Lake Wylie, SC.
A visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, June 2nd from 1:00-2:00 followed by funeral service in First Baptist Sanctuary starting at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born on June 23, 1927 in York, SC he was the son of Floyd Dewey McDowell and Eunice Viola Wright McDowell. He lived a life marked by faith, love for family, and service to others.
He was devoted member of First Baptist Church in York SC since 1939. Robert faithfully served his church and community for many years. He was also proud to have served in the United States Navy.
He was known for his deeply rooted faith, kindness, humor, work ethic, and gentle spirit. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, Atlanta Braves baseball, York Cougar and Clemson Tiger football. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family.
He is survived by his children Cynthia McCarley (John), Steve Eugene McDowell (Rose), his grandchildren Monica Garcia Morrison (Dwayne), Nikki McCarley Gossett (Matt), Nona McDowell Lane (Wes), John McCarley II, Steven E. McDowell II, his great grandchildren Antonio Garcia (Jennie), Austin Page, Denae Lane Truesdale (Chase), Kennedy Lane, Caleb Page, Alex Morrison, Carrigan Lane, Giovanna McDowell, 7 great-great grandchildren, his siblings Roberta Williams, Betty Armstrong, Mary Lee Kennington and Richard McDowell (Barbara).
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Sarah Belle McDowell, his son Bobby Caron McDowell, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McDowell, sisters Catherine McCalister, Jean Joye, brothers Billy McDowell, Dewey McDowell, and Charles McDowell.
The family would like to thank Agape Hospice and the caregivers at Lake Wylie Assisted Living for their love and care. We would also like to thank Spring Myers and Sam Catoe for their constant love and conversations in the Word.
