Robert Connolly Obituary

Robert (Bob) Edward Connolly, Sr., lovingly known as “Slugger,” passed peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family on April 8th 2026. A lifelong resident of Connolly Road, he was born, raised, and lived his entire life in the place he loved most—his home and community.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2026 beginning at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of York ARP Church, 70 North Congress St., York, SC 29745. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Larry Braswell and Mr. Scottie Crawford.  Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, York, SC.

A devoted member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Bob faithfully served as a Deacon, Elder, and Elder Emeritus. His faith was a steady foundation throughout his life, and he instilled these values in his family.

Bob was a hardworking and dedicated man, known for his years as the former owner of Dixie Manufacturing. He was deeply committed not only to his work, but to the people around him—going above and beyond to ensure others were taken care of, even during difficult times.

He was a man of many passions. In his younger years, he was an athlete—playing football, basketball, and baseball, where he proudly earned the nickname “Slugger.” He was also a Golden Gloves boxer. Later in life, he became an avid and accomplished golfer, winning the club championship at Spring Lake Country Club in York. He also enjoyed searching for and restoring cars, always finding joy in the process. He was a loyal fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Around the neighborhood, he was affectionately known as the ‘Sheriff of Connolly Road,’ often seen riding his golf cart, checking on neighbors and those around him, and always ready to lend a helping hand. If someone needed a ride or assistance, Bob was there.

He had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs, goats, ponies, and donkeys, and took pride in caring for them—even if he occasionally tried to part with them, only to bring them back home again.

Above all, Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He raised three children with strength, patience, and love—even through their share of mischief and growing pains. He created a family bound by love, laughter, and resilience.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his children, Lisa Stearns (Billy), Ed Connolly (Becky), and Mickey Connolly (Tracy); and his stepchildren, Lisa Warlick, Mike Warlick (Crystal), and Myra Vogt. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashleigh Miller (Josh), Travis Sutton (Megan), Matt Connolly (Erin), Trey Connolly (Taylor), Drew Connolly (Kayla), Lindsey Arthur (Travis), and Erin Mescia (Dalton); and his great-grandchildren: Alexis, Ansley, Myles, Ellie, Peyton, Aiden, Isabel, Woods, Henry, Hayes, and Grady. Surviving step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, include Kinley, Ellis, Morgan, Brooke, Kate, and Emily.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alan Madry (Joy), Joe Connolly (Helen), and Roddey Connolly (Ann).

Bob cherished time spent with his family, especially trips to the coast and camping adventures, creating memories that will live on for generations.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Agape Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided.

Memorials may be made to York ARP Church, PO Box 475, York, SC 29745 York, South Carolina.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous heart, his sense of humor, and the love he gave so freely to his family and community.
