Rev. Phillip R. Lemmons

Reverend Phillip “Phil” Roosevelt Lemmons, age 91, of Clover, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy., York, SC 29745, and at other times at the family home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Crowders View Free Will Baptist Church, 6557 Lewis Rd., Kings Mountain, NC, with Reverend Michael Leary and Reverend Keith Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.

Born on April 18, 1935 in Graham County, North Carolina, Phil was the son of the late Horace Gordon Lemmons and Hattie Mae Welch Lemmons. He honorably served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, where he was trained as a sharpshooter.

Phil worked in the textile industry and later owned multiple convenience stores. In 1976, he began employment with Duke Power Company. Throughout his life, he faithfully served the Lord as a Deacon, Choir Leader, and Sunday School Teacher at Clover First Free Will Baptist Church and Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church in York. He also helped with the construction of the Catawba Nuclear Plant and later transferred to Walhalla, SC in 1985 to assist with construction at the Oconee Nuclear Plant.

In January 1988, Phil answered God’s call into the ministry. He was licensed into the ministry by the Southern Baptist Association and was elected Pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Walhalla, SC, where he faithfully shepherded the congregation until retiring from Duke Power in 1990. In November 1991, he was ordained by the True-Life Association.

In January 1992, Phil became the founder of Gloryland Free Will Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC. He remained a charter member until his passing and retired from pastoral leadership there on January 16, 2011. Even after retirement, he continued evangelizing and ministering in churches for many years.

Phil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, humility, and service. His love for God, his family, and his community touched countless lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of five years, Marsha Bollinger Lemmons; his son, Ricky Lemmons (Callie); his daughters, Cathy Burns (Marty), Kimberly Ann Lemmons, and Angela Good (Richard); seven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 66 years, Sally Bell Jenkins Lemmons; his infant son, Phillip Marvin Lemmons; and his siblings, Merrit Lemmons, Clint Lemmons, Vollie Lemmons, Frank Lemmons, Guy Lemmons, Della Lemmons, Inez Cathy, Hazel Cook, and Maxine Moore.
