Mrs. Phyllis Clark Broom, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Grace Chapel Baptist Church, 475 S. Shiloh Rd., York, SC 29745. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Caleb Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.
Phyllis was born on August 8, 1940, in York, SC. She was the daughter of the late William Cephas Clark and Berdell Martin Clark.
A native “Yorkite,” Phyllis was born and raised in the community she loved so dearly. She loved York and its people, and alongside her beloved husband, Tommy, she spent a lifetime owning and operating Broom’s Garage. Phyllis was also a faithful member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church in York.
To say that Momma loved her family would be an understatement. Her family was the center of her life, and she would proudly tell anyone that she wanted to be known simply as the wife of Tommy Broom and the mother of Lee and Gayle. In a time when that may not have been considered a popular ambition for a woman, Phyllis considered it her greatest calling and carried that role with the highest honor.
Yet, even greater than her love for her family was her love for the Lord. Phyllis was a faithful daughter of the King, and her family finds comfort in knowing that when she took her final breath on this earth, she entered into the presence of her Savior and heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Phyllis is survived by her children, Lee Broom (Ann) and Gayle Dover (Leslie); her grandson, Christopher Dover (Anna); her granddaughter-in-law, Erica Broom; her great-grandson, Noah Dover; and her sister, Patricia C. Goforth.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Thomas “Tommy” Lee Broom, Sr.; her grandson, Thomas Lee Broom, III; her brother, Garland Clark; her sister-in-law, Faye Clark; and her brother-in-law, Bobby Goforth.
The family would like to thank caregivers Juanela Adams and Billie Merritt for their constant love and support for our mother and family.
