Perry Mason Hogue

Perry Mason Hogue, Sr., age 91, of Rock Hill, SC, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill, SC.

Perry was born on August 5, 1935, in York, SC. He was the son of the late Samuel G. Hogue and Elizabeth “Betty” Chavis Hogue. Perry graduated from York High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian College in 1957.  Following his undergraduate studies, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country. In 1961, he received an MBA from the University of South Carolina.

Perry devoted his professional life to a career in finance in Charlotte, NC and was a long-time member of Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC.

Perry was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan and enjoyed going to football games and tailgating with his family for over fifty years.  He also was an avid golfer and a founder in 1982 of a group of twelve credit managers, comically named “The Dirty Dozen,” who became great friends and made numerous golf trips spanning more than forty years.  He continued golfing and tailgating while enjoying great health through the end of his life. 

“Papa Perry” loved spending time with his grandchildren.  He and Claudette took them on many trips to Carowinds while they were growing up, riding all the rides including a favorite “The Intimidator.”  He shared his enthusiasm for the Carolina Gamecocks with them each fall, fished with them off the coast of Georgetown, SC and golfed with his grandsons.  He will be remembered for his quick wit, strong work ethic, financial savvy and generous support for the formal education of his grandchildren.

Perry and Claudette also spent a lot of time the last ten years with their good friends, Jim and Bonnie, with whom they enjoyed traveling the country, going to the beach, eating big lunches and rocking on the porch.

Perry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Claudette Bolin Hogue; his two sons, Mason Hogue (Presley) and Michael Hogue (Michelle); his five grandchildren, Matthew Hogue (Hannah), Elizabeth Hogue, Robert Hogue, Emily Hogue, and Natalie Hogue; and his great-grandson, Murphy Hogue. In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by twelve brothers and sisters. 

A memorial service, hosted by the church, will be held at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 29. A reception at the church will follow the memorial service.
