Mary Mitchelson Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our precious mother, Mary (Maggie) Bogle Mitchelson. She closed her beautiful brown eyes on June 23, 2024 after a wonderfully lived life. A life full of love, laughter, resilience and contagious sassy spirit.

Our lives will forever be changed by her loss.

Visitation will be held at her church, First Baptist Church of York, 102 S. Congress St, York SC 29745 Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 2-4 PM. There will be a private graveside service following visitation.

Momma was born in the small coal town of Pocahontas, Virginia on January 7, 1938 to Tom and Virginia Bogle.

She met our father in this small town but it was not love at first sight for her. Mom took one look at dad and threw rocks at him. They met up once again a few years later and mom decided dad wasn’t so bad after all; and they were married a few months later. It wasn’t long before they were blessed with their first child, Billy Robert, and many years later, they were once again blessed with the arrival of a daughter, Tina Renee’.

Mom loved to cook for her family and she made some of the best cakes ever to grace a cake plate. Her fried chicken was beyond compare and it was a true treat to sit at her table.

Our mom was a woman of many talents. Mom hand quilted beautiful quilts, worked puzzles, instilled in us a love for reading, did taxes for too many years to count and taught all of her grand boys to cook.

She was truly the rock of our family. She loved us unconditionally. If we were happy, she was happy. If you made us mad then momma was mad at you too. She loved her friends like they were family and she taught us to love the same way. Mom always helped those in need and our door was always open.

Momma loved to travel and some of her favorite trips were with “her girls”. Momma traveled with her favorite cousin Irene; who has always been like a sister, and her dear sister-in-law Ethel. The girls went on many adventures together and always came back with hilarious tales of mishaps and hiccups along the way. Their love for each other was beyond measure.

Mom is survived by our dad, Billy Mitchelson, son Billy and his wife Marilyn (Mimi), daughter Tina Felske and her husband Robert (Bobby), 4 grandsons, Eric (Charlene), Brandon (Caitlin), Brian and Caden. 5 great grandchildren, Hannah (Zack), Gracie, Adalyn, Carter and Jack. 1 great great grandson Aaron.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ruth, brothers Jim, Raymond and Billy.

Our lives are better for having been loved by her but our hearts are forever broken by her loss.

In memory of Maggie Mitchelson, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, St Judes or Wounded Warriors.
