Marshall Dickson Whitesides, Sr.

YORK – Marshall Dickson Whitesides, Sr., 96, of York, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Carolina Gardens in York, SC. Marshall loved the Lord, his wife, his family and his country.

Marshall was the son of the late George Patrick and Grace Dickson Whitesides. Marshall was the owner of Whitesides Cleaners in York and was a member of the York Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and elder and earned the honorary status of Elder Emeritus. He was a lifetime member of the York Philanthropic Masonic Lodge #32. Marshall also was a United States Army veteran in World War II. He was a member of the 14th Armored Division, 62nd Infantry, Company A and earned a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Sadelle (Sid) Hambright Whitesides, sons, Marshall Dickson (Dicky) Whitesides, Jr. (Bunny), David Steven Whitesides (Cindy), four grandchildren, Dicksy Broadwater (Jason), Marsha Smiley (Kevin), David Whitesides (Jessica) and Mark Whitesides and five great grandchildren, Sophie Smiley, Marshall Smiley, Lydia Smiley, Drake Broadwater and Rosey Broadwater. Marshall was preceded in death by his brother George Whitesides and sisters Louise W. Taylor and Frances W. Williamson.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Springlake Country Club, 1375 Springlake Road, York, SC on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.
