Lavinia Bolin Obituary

Ms. Lavinia Whitener Bolin, age 94, of Smyrna, SC went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 24th, 2024.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Monday, October 28th, 2024 at Smyrna ARP Church, 3141 Legion Rd, Smyrna, SC 29743. The funeral service will start at 2 pm in the church sanctuary with Reverend Alan Morrow and Reverend Boyce Wilson officiating.  The family will also receive friends at Lavinia’s home at 274 Rock Cut Road, Smyrna at other times.

Lavinia was born on October 17th, 1930 in Clover, SC. She was the daughter of the late Henry Garfield Whitener and Beth Smith Whitener.  She is survived by her son, Jack McKnight (Laura) and stepson, Doug Bolin. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Shane McKnight (Ginny), Beth Faulkner (William) and Brandy Wilke, her five great grandchildren, Ivey McKnight, Brian Wilson (Ariel), Brock Wilson, John Faulkner (Cameron) and Liz Faulkner and her two great-great grandchildren, Braelynn Galloway and Grayson Wilson. Also surviving is her sister, Kathy Loudermilk.

In addition to her parents, Lavinia was preceded in death by her two husbands, Bill Williams and Roy White Bolin along with her son, Ed McKnight, her great grandson, Will Faulkner and her sisters, Evelyn Wells, Faye Rumfelt and Ailene Allen.

Lavinia lived her life as a true child of Christ.  Her Bibles, Study Bibles and related books and devotionals are worn from daily use with highlighting, underlining, and notes of reference.  Memorizing the 100th Psalm in first grade was an accomplishment she was proud of and became an encouragement to her throughout her life.  She was always known for praying earnestly for her family, friends, community and nation.

Lavinia was known as “Mama Vene” or “Vennie” by her many cherished friends.  She was known as Grandma Vene by her loving grandchildren and Grandma ‘Bean’ by her great grandchildren.  All who loved her and were blessed by knowing her knew her to be a determined, independent, strong-willed Southern Belle’, always inspiring grace and elegance to the ‘younger’ generations.

Memorials in Lavinia’s name may be made to Smyrna ARP Church, PO Bx 41 Smyrna, SC 29743 or Agape Hospice, 516 E Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
