Mr. John “Buddy” Edward Cain, Sr., age 82, of York, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy., York, SC 29745, and other times at the daughter, Christine’s home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dave Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
Buddy was born on June 3, 1944, in York, SC, to the late Lytle Cain and Fannie Youngblood Cain. He was a graduate of York High School, where he was recognized as an All-Star football player.
While Buddy enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, nothing brought him greater joy than supporting his grandchildren in everything they did. He proudly answered to the name "Paw Paw" and loved his grandchildren with all his heart. Buddy never met a stranger and treasured the friendships and fellowship he shared with his church family at Filbert Presbyterian Church.
Buddy is survived by his daughter, Christine Cain Stiles; his sons, Eddie Cain (Melissa) and Jamie Cain; his grandchildren, Allyson Stiles, John Patrick "JP" Stiles (Kelly), Sarah Cain, and Dalton Cain; his great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Aubree, Jocelyn, Amillia, Cohen, Callie, and Little JP; and his sister, Ferrie "Sis" Cain Green.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his siblings, Roy Thomas Cain, Alice Cain Hope, Louise Cain Ramsey, Mary Frances Cain, James "Jimmie" Hazel Cain, William Eugene Cain, Sr., Charles Lytle Cain, and Robert Joseph "Bobbie Joe" Cain; and by his granddaughter, Lindsay Cain Stiles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Buddy's memory to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
