Jeannie Marie (Thurston) Purvis

Jeannie Marie Purvis, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed from this earth into her Savior’s arms on July 20th, 2022 while surrounded by her family.

Jeannie was born on August 27th, 1975, in Charlottesville, VA and graduated from Goochland High School in Goochland, VA.  She leaves behind her husband Mike Purvis, sons Carter and Levi Purvis, Mother Ernestine Thurston, sister Sheila Daguison and brother John Thurston.  She was preceded by her father Charles Thurston.

Jeannie never met a stranger and had a Christian heart for service.  She worked for Lowe’s home improvement until the birth of her youngest son and then began a second career as a stay-at-home mom and “hug dealer”.  Her children were her life and she could be found volunteering in their school classrooms, libraries or anywhere there was a need for help.  Before moving to Lake Wylie in 2005, Jeannie found the charlottemommies.com group and dove right into the community.  She then went on to co-lead and launch yorkcountymommies.com with her “wife for life” Alicia.  Her heart for service to others and gifts for organization and research made her a powerhouse of information for countless mothers and families.  As her boys grew and progressed through school, Jeannie applied her skills to help administer a Facebook group for parents of students attending the University of South Carolina where she helped organize, encourage and guide parents from all over the country.  At her core, Jeannie was a woman of immense Christian faith.  She served in volunteer staff positions with Relevant church for almost 11 years where often she was the first face to greet new visitors and enjoy a warm hug.  Jeannie loved so many and was loved by so many, and while we miss her smile, humor and hugs, she will eternally be in our hearts.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 2pm at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill, 15000 York Rd, Charlotte, NC 28278.  Pastor Matt McGarity of Relevant Church will officiate.
