Obituary
James “Butch” Clinton Benfield, 88, of York, SC passed away at his home on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 at Philadelphia UMC Cemetery, located at 2260 Chester Hwy, York, SC 29745, with Rev. Ken Spaulding officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service.
Butch was born on February 19th, 1935, to the late Walter Davison Benfield and Annie Clinton Benfield. He was a veteran of the US Army Korean War, co-owner of Benfield-Towery Construction, retired from Duke Energy, and was a member of Philanthropic Masonic Lodge 32 AFM.
He is survived by his grandchildren Skip Blackmon and Mark Blackmon, and his great grandchild, McKinley Porter.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Robinson Benfield; his children: Dorothy Blackmon Barnett, Richard Blackmon, Robert Blackmon and Marvin Blackmon; his siblings Mattie Mae Brown (Ray), and Juanita Towery (Hoover).
Memorials can be made in Butch’s name to Philadelphia UMC Cemetery Fund, 2260 Chester Hwy, York, SC 29745.
