Herschel Lee Brown, Sr.

Herschel Lee Brown, Sr. age 100, passed away June 27, 2025 at home.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Bratton Funeral Home in York, SC. A celebration of life service will be held on July 2, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Sharon United Methodist Church, 3001 Shannon Street Sharon, SC officiated by Pastor Monica Tilley . Interment with Military Honors by VFW Post 12136 Honor Guard will follow at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sharon, SC.

Born April 25, 1925 in Hoodtown, SC to the late Mason Patrick Brown and Ottie Lee Bankhead Brown, he was the widower of Inez Hyatt Brown to whom he had been married for 70 years. In addition, Herschel was a long-time active member of Sharon United Methodist Church and a proud veteran of the U S Army Air Corps. He was a member of Palmetto Lodge 289 of Sharon for over 50 years and also a past master of the lodge. He was owner/operator of Brownie’s Sales, in Sharon, SC and a former Mayor of Sharon.

He is survived by his three children: Herschel L. Brown, Jr. (Heather Wright), Cynthia A. Brown-Stallings (Steve) and Teresa L. Couch (Chris), along with six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and his sister, Joyce B. Jones.

In addition to his parents, Herschel was preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel B. Comer, Jean B. Jordan, and Mason Neil Brown.
