Herman Maxie Burton, 86, of York, SC, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Hamilton Family Care Home in Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Unity Baptist Church, 2300 Irene Bridge Rd., Hickory Grove, SC 29717. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary, officiated by Reverend Alan Peeler. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Born June 20, 1939, in Walhalla, SC, Herman was the son of the late John McKinley Burton and Mary Sue Davis Burton, and the widower of Maureen Clark Burton. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and a devoted member of Unity Baptist Church in Hickory Grove, SC.
Herman is survived by his children, Kerry Burton Sr. (Karen), Theresa Thompson, and Michael Hunter (Sue); grandchildren, Matthew, Bailey, Courtney, Daniel, Elizabeth, Jeremy, Jordan, Alicia, Kerry Jr, and Sierra; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Phoebe, Matthew Jr., Chandler, Alyssa, Olivia, Valo, Zander, Elise, Ava, O’Bryan, Giovanna; and his sister, Doris LeCroy.
In addition to his loving wife, Maureen Burton, and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ardith Fox, and his son-in-law, John Thompson.
In memory of Herman, memorials may be made to the Men’s Fellowship at Unity Baptist Church, 2300 Irene Bridge Rd., Hickory Grove, SC 29717.
