Hazel (Hartness) Montgomery

Ms. Hazel Hartness Montgomery, age 78 of Sharon, SC passed away on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday, February 25th, 2024 at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy York, SC 29745, and other times at the family’s home. The funeral service will be held the following day at 11 am at Sharon United Methodist Church, 3001 Shannon St. Sharon, SC, with Pastor Monica Tilley and Pastor Alex Maultsby officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Hazel was born on April 25th, 1945 in York County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Robert Sewell Hartness and Willie Feemster Hartness and the widow of Edward Morris Montgomery, Sr. She worked for 40+ years as secretary for York School District, mainly schools in Sharon, and was a member of Sharon UMC. She enjoyed spending time camping and fishing but mostly spending time with her grandchildren whom all referred to her as “Granny”.

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Teresa Whitaker (Todd), Karen Wallace (Michael), Carol Taylor (Rodney); her son, Morris Montgomery; her grandchildren: Michael Whitaker (Casha), Michelle Whitaker, Cera Fooks (Ian), Daniel Taylor (Hannah), Edward Montgomery, Dillon Taylor, and Nicholas Montgomery; and her five great grandchildren: Rachel Ann Taylor, Corbin Luke Persley, Lincoln Grey Fooks, Michael Cohen Whitaker, and Lillian Kate Fooks.

In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her brother, John Hartness.
