Harold Dameron Wilson

Harold Dameron Wilson, age 83, died Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Atrium Health Pineville after a day surrounded by his loved ones. His was the kind of death we all want.

A visitation will be hosted by the First Presbyterian Church, York, South Carolina, in the parlor of the church on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 6pm – 8pm. Following a private family burial at Lakeview Memory Gardens, a celebration of his life will be hosted by the First Presbyterian Church, York, South Carolina, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 3pm officiated by the Rev. Nick Setzer and the Rev. Mia Levetan.

Born in Chester, South Carolina, on March 3, 1941, Harold was the only child of the late General Osco Wilson and the late Eva Dameron Wilson. He grew up in Chester, South Carolina, learning to fix cars from his father who owned a garage in town. These skills served him and his family well over the years as he was the person to go to when something broke. He loved to find creative ways to fix things.

Harold worked for Celanese 32 ½ years, first at the Rock Hill plant, then in the corporate office in Charlotte where he coordinated the purchase of equipment for a plant in China. He concluded his career at the Mount Holly, North Carolina, plant. His job allowed him to travel around the country and eventually to China as he served as a corrosion specialist. After retirement he and his wife, Ann, were able to travel to places like the Gallipolis Islands, England, France, Austria, Alaska, and Hawaii.

He was truly a good man dedicated to his community and the First Presbyterian Church, York. He served as a deacon and a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for many years, as a church trustee, and as a member of two pastoral search committees. In retirement, he was active in the York Rotary Club; worked for Black’s Peaches helping with school field trips; was a poll worker for the York County Board of Registration and Election; led, with his wife, First Presbyterian Church’s English as a Second Language program; and coordinated the Senior Adult Ministry program. Once he moved to Park Pointe Village in Rock Hill, he served on the Independent Residents’ Council and sang in the Christmas choir. He was a hard worker and brought his pleasant demeanor to all that he did.

Harold was married to Annis Lindsay Wilson (Ann) for over fifty-nine years. Their marriage has served as a model for their family. He adored his wife, two daughters, and four granddaughters, often bragging about the advantages of having all girls. He loved his daughters’ husbands, Ken and Davey, like sons and his granddaughter’s husband Jerrod like a grandson. He took an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren, attending every game, recital, program, or show he could (and this was nearly all of them!). He loved having everyone together around the pool or the dinner table, sharing our lives and accomplishments. Family trips to the beach were the highlight of the year. His grandchildren have fond memories of the hours they spent at his house playing together and of the grandparent/grandchildren-only trips to Florida he and Ann took with them.

In addition to his wife Ann, Harold is survived by his daughters Margaret Wilson Gillikin (Ken) and Alicia Wilson Breakfield (Davey) and his granddaughters Lindsay Gillikin (Jerrod), Amanda Breakfield, Meghan Gillikin, and Samantha Breakfield. Harold will be dearly missed, but his was a life well-lived.
