Gene Ray Copeland

Mr. Gene Ray Copeland, age 78, of Clover, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2025, at Union Baptist Church of Filbert, 1945 Ratchford Road, York, SC 29745. A memorial service celebrating Gene’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Tony Klinedinst officiating. Military Honors will be provided following the service by VFW Post 12136 Honor Guard.

Gene was born on March 2, 1947, in Monroe, North Carolina, to the late James Pierce Copeland and Irene Morris Copeland. He was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church of Filbert. Gene retired as parts manager for Dunlap Johnson Chevrolet in York and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Rose Copeland; his children, James Copeland and Genie Mayhue; his grandchild, Connor Copeland; and his siblings, Wanda Davis, Dennis Copeland (Cathy), and Preston McDaniel (Susan). Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Theresa Copeland.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Copeland, James William Copeland, Anthony Copeland, along with another brother that was born stillborn and his brother-in-law, Billy Ray Davis.

Memorials in Gene’s memory may be made to Union Baptist Church of Filbert, 1945 Ratchford Road, York, SC 29745.
