Gary Kelly Richardson

Gary Kelly Richardson, age 70 of York, SC passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 peacefully at his home after battling cancer.

 The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, at York Wesleyan Church located at 1830 York Hwy, York SC 29745.  The funeral service celebrating the life of Gary will begin at 3 pm in the church with Reverend Travis Ward officiating. Burial will be held immediately after the service at Lakeview Memory Garden at 1774 Filbert Highway, York, SC.

 Gary was born on March 13, 1953 in Monroe, NC.  He was the son of the late Kelly and Virginia Richardson.  He previously worked for the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company (The Bleachery) and retired from Carowinds as an electrician/ride technician after 25 years of service.

 Gary is survived by his daughters Audrea Johnson (Lucas) and Stephanie Ortega (Jessie). Grandchildren Easton Johnson, Raylynn Johnson, Kristina Brown and Noah Ortega; his sister Karen Totherow (Tony) and his nephew Scott Totherow (Amie) and niece Kimberly Whetstine (Matt) and great nephews Nathan and Ryan Totherow, Maddox Whetstine and great niece Kinsley Whetstine as well as his best friend “Tegar” his Maine Coon cat.

 Gary loved watching NASCAR and was an avid Dale Earnhardt/Dale Earnhardt Jr fan.  He enjoyed “tinkering” on things and restoring his old cars and pretending to be a horticulturist.    Gary attended York Tech where he obtained his Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering.    After retirement he moved in behind his sister’s home to his Tiny house that he lovingly called his “Little House on the Prairie”. 

 Gary was witty and funny, strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined him.  They were a part of who he was and his strength undoubtedly helped him deal with the challenges of the cancer that he faced.

 The family would like to extend thanks to all the caregivers from Providence Care with special thanks to Corrina and Priscilla for their care, time and conversations and last but not least, Holly who we can’t thank enough for the care, encouragement, love and support she gave us all.

 Memorials in honor of Gary may be made to the Hospice organizations of one’s choice.
