Frances (McElroy) Nivens

Mrs. Frances McElroy Nivens, age 91, of York, SC passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, in Rock Hill, SC.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 8th, 2026 beginning at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of York ARP Church, 70 North Congress St., York, SC 29745. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM officiated by Mr. Scottie Crawford.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 1774 Filbert Hwy, York, SC.

Frances was born on May 21, 1934 in Clover, SC. She was the daughter of the late Emmett N. McElroy and Mary Engle McElroy and the widow of Howard G. Nivens, Sr. She was retired as the secretary of W. Herbert Smith Company in Clover, Executive Secretary for Clover/Lake Wylie United Way, she worked in food service for the York School District. She was the long-time secretary and devoted life-long member of York ARP Church. Frances was loved by many friends and will be missed by all.  

Frances is survived by her daughter- in- law Monnie George, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Howard (Buster) Nivens, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Hines, Billy McElroy, Bobby Joe McElroy and Ruby M. Quinn.
