Ellen (Pridmore) Green

Ellen Pridmore Green, 70, of York, SC, died peacefully at her home Sunday, April 3, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in York, SC on Thursday, April 7 at 3pm with the Reverend Nick Setzer officiating. A reception celebrating Ellen’s life will follow at the church; all are welcome.

Ellen was born on May 18, 1951 in Hickory Grove, SC. She was the daughter of the late John Felix Pridmore and Margaret Brown Pridmore. She graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and married William Kenneth (Kenny) Green. She started her career as a 2nd grade teacher in Clover before becoming an Assistant Principal. Most of her career was at Jefferson Primary (later Elementary) in York, from where she retired in 2011. Ellen was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher for Presbyterian Church USA and a member of First Presbyterian Church in York. She was a member of the York Jaycees, on the board of the Early Learning Partnership of York County, a founding member of Affirmation of York County, and deeply involved with many other organizations, including PATH of York County and Frontera de Cristo. 

All who knew Ellen were affected by her abundant joy and intentional love.  She lived her life, even in the face of her incurable cancer, according to these scripture passages, Micah 6:8 “And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  and Ephesians 4:2-3 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.”

Ellen is survived by her sons, William K. Green, Jr. (Sara) of Irmo, SC, Robert M. Green (Jennifer) of York, SC, John M. Green of York, SC, dear sister-in-law, Margaret Ramsey (Harold), grandchildren, Elly, Lauren, Evan, Olivia, Michael, and Thomas.

In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Kenny, and brothers J. F. “John John” Pridmore, Jr., and Robert Michael “Mike” Pridmore.
