Elaine Dickson Obituary

Mrs. Elaine Moss Dickson walked with Jesus through the gates of Heaven on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC. Her spirit is carried on by her husband, Joseph Albert Dickson of York, SC, or “Joe” as she preferred; her two children, Sherri (Kevin) Dickson Petty of York, and Jeffrey Dickson of York; her five grandchildren, Rachel (Brandon) Elaine Fite, Noah Petty, Lane (Kendall) Smith, Emalee (Caleb) Clayton, Jacob Dickson; her 2 great-grandchildren, Annistyn and Oaklynn Smith; her “sister” and double first cousin, Carolyn (Neil) Moss Smarr. Elaine is reunited with her parents, Johnny Albert Moss and Lula O’Vella Moss, as well as her three brothers, Jerry, Harold, and Bruce Moss.

We were blessed to learn many things from “Mama” and “Grandmama” throughout the years, among them: Never turn down an ice cold Mountain Dew. Buy as many Christmas gifts as you can possibly fit under the tree, and then buy some more. Attend every single sporting event, awards ceremony, dance recital, and graduation and with that, celebrate every little event or accomplishment honoring those you love the most. Never hesitate to get down on the floor and play pretend with your grandchildren. Offer your opinion, and part of your dinner, any chance you get. Don’t ever miss an opportunity for a good joke. Make sure you stand on the back porch and wave and dance when family is pulling out of the driveway. Fill any and every moment of silence with conversation, whether it makes any sense or not.  And lastly, definitely most importantly, always say “I love you more”.

Elaine was retired from the York School District where she served as a secretary at the high school. She was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, where she had attended services and raised her children and grandchildren for the better part of 54 years. Elaine enjoyed watching birds from her back porch swing, sipping iced mochas, sneaking treats to Harvey, and making everyone laugh. She was accurately described by her father over 50 years ago as a “hard-head”, and we can safely say that trait did not water down over time. She especially loved being around her family, and was well known for “spoiling” her grandchildren.

Friends can visit with Elaine’s family in the Family Life Center at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 18th, from 6pm-8pm. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 19th, at 3pm at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Wayne T.
