Dianne Barber Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carra Dianne Barber, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on August 8, 2024, at the age of 80.

Dianne was born to Samuel and Margaret Redfern on December 20, 1943, and grew up on their farm in New London, Iowa, along with her older sister, Linda. It was there she learned how to work hard and where to hide when she wanted to skip chores! Later, when she went to secretarial school in Burlington, she met a charming troublemaker named Larry Wayne Barber and fell in love. Together, they laughed, faced challenges, and had three sons: Todd Wayne Barber, who died at birth, Larry Andrew Barber, and John Wade Barber. After Larry passed away following more than 40 years of marriage, Dianne left the Midwest to be closer to her sons.

Always warm and outgoing, Dianne quickly made new friends and loved serving the Rock Hill community through her church, Covenant Presbyterian. She enjoyed mah-jong and crocheting crafts for her loved ones. Dianne also loved bright colors and wild earrings—if you dared her, she’d wear it—and thought you could never have too many friends. Cardinals reminded her of her dad, so she loved watching birds in the yard. Though she firmly believed uncluttered surfaces invited stacking, her kitchen is best remembered for delicious chicken enchiladas and the beloved family favorite, “apple glue.”

Her parents, husband, and oldest son, Todd, precede her in death. Their memories live on through the stories she cherished. She is survived by her two loving sons, Andy (Lisa) Barber and Wade (Candice) Barber; five grandchildren—Devon Barber, Alisha Gagliano, Colin Barber, Caeden Barber, and McKenna Barber; one great-grandchild, Aubree Digati; and her sister, Linda McNeil. We will miss Dianne’s warmth and humor, but her legacy inspires us to live boldly and cherish every moment.
