On August 7th, 2024, Denise E. Eakin of York, SC took her last earthly breath and with this, knocked the breath out of all of us. Denise was a loving wife of 52 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. To all those that knew her, their lives will forever be changed and that’s thanks to her life motto that “she had never met a stranger”. Her presence lit up a room, her smile exuded acceptance, her laugh sang off the walls, and her soul held you close when you needed it the most. She truly loved everyone for who they were. She was not just one of a kind, but one in a lifetime. Very few people leave the world a better place, but Denise managed to do that with only love, grace, and kindness. Today is a dark day, but may her light continue to shine through each and every one of us and may we learn to love like she did. Fly high Mama! To say you will be missed is an understatement and I’ll love you forever!
Denise leaves behind her husband Vernon Eakin. Her children: Robert, John, Bryan, and Tiffany Eakin. Her “bonus sons”: Paul Moody, Dirk Drummond, Joey Lyzen. “Bonus” daughters: Megan Sturgill (daughter-in-law), Jessica Blake, Jessica Kawamoto, Amy Dover (grandsons’ mother), Melanie Rhyne (grandchildren’s mother). Grandchildren: Madisun McKee, Caleb Gilfillan, Colby & Carter Eakin, Andrew Eakin. “Bonus” grandchildren: Auttumn Lystrup, Blake Huggins, Ryleigh Allen. Great-grandchildren: Elizabeth & Colton “King” Eakin, Titus McKee, Kaylani Gilfillan. To her many other “bonus & adopted” children not listed above, Mama Eakin loved you all.
Denise was proceeded in death by her parents Bob & Shirley Smith and Grandson Miller Eakin.
