The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Olivet Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, 159 Church Street, McConnells, SC 29726. A funeral service will follow the visitation in the church sanctuary with Reverend Chip McArthur officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
David was born on September 21, 1940, in Clover, South Carolina. He was the youngest son of the late William R. Currence and Bessie Bailey Currence. He lettered in both football and baseball at York High School and, in 2011, was inducted into the York County High School Hall of Fame.
David began his career with the South Carolina Highway Department and later worked for Grady Daves Grading. In 1966, he joined Bowater in the maintenance department, where he faithfully worked for 36 years until his retirement. He was also a proud veteran of the U S Army Reserves.
A lifelong member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, David faithfully served as an elder for more than 25 years. He enjoyed working with the youth on numerous occasions and especially loved spending time visiting the church nursery. His favorite hymn was "Work for the Night is Coming."
David had a deep love for the land and found great joy in raising beef cattle, which kept him busy and fulfilled throughout his retirement.
Above all, David was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his cherished wife, Sandra Frame Currence; his son, Richard William Currence (Jodie), and their sons, Easton Curtis Currence and Case Monroe Currence; his daughter, Terri Currence Frue (Jack), and their children, Cameron Calhoun Frue and Bailey Elizabeth Frue; and his nieces, Pam Currence Hair and Sharon Currence McAfee.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Rufus Hamilton Currence, and his wife, Judy O'Dell Currence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olivet Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 74, McConnells, SC 29726.
