David George Buchanan, 92, of York, SC passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 peacefully at his home.
David was born on March 14, 1929 in Newark, NJ. He was the son of the late Hammett Buchanan, Sr. and Elaine Hillard Buchanan. Before moving to York, he was longtime resident of Princeton NJ, Treasure Cay, Abaco Bahamas and Cloyne, Ontario Canada. After graduating Trenton State College, he received his Master’s Degree from Lehigh University. David served 12 years in the Navy and Navel Reserves and taught in various schools in the Trenton area. He retired from Mercer County College as Full Professor Emeritus where he headed up the Aviation Program. David was a Journeymen Ironworker, President and owner of Buchanan Construction and the Hardware Corp., Chairman of Physical Science and Technology at Camden Community College. He served and Consulted on many Aviation advisory Committees.
Dave enjoyed his association with the AOPA, NJ Pilot Assoc., NJ Aviation Education Council, Gothic Fraternal Lodge No. 270 F&AM Warrant 1998, Scottish Rite, Crescent Temple, Princeton Shrine, Past Commodore Sand Bank Yacht Club and Royal Marsh Harbor Yacht Club.
His passion was flying, fishing, aviation and woodworking. He was awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot.
David is survived by his daughter, Sherri Schultz and her husband, Richard “Ed”; step-daughters, Kimberly Keyes (Jim) and Cynthia Burdalski (Mike), step-son, Gaius Mount, (Suzanne) grandchildren, Caroline Peck (Brian) and Sarah Schultz-Hawley (Tanner), David and Jared Keyes, Brad and Alyssa Mount, and Great grandson Henry Peck
A graveside service was held at 12 noon on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NJ.
