The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM, in the parlor at First Presbyterian Church York and other times at the home.

Buzz is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice Weber Smith, daughters, Emily Louise Smith (David) of Wilmington, NC; Elizabeth Smith Owen (Henry) of Rock Hill, SC, three granddaughters, Mary Alice Owen, Elizabeth “Lettie” James Owen, Elizabeth “Birdie” Louise Smith, sister-in-law, Nelle McCants Smith of Beaufort, SC, niece, Ora Elliott Smith, of Beaufort, SC, and nephew, John Gettys Smith, Jr., of Cathedral City, CA.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Base Smith and Ora Samantha Gettys Smith, his brother, John Gettys Smith, Sr., and his nephew, Spencer McCants Smith.

Born May 28, 1934, in York, Buzz was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church York, which he served in various leadership roles, including, Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Treasurer, and Sunday School Superintendent. He owned and operated Clyde O. Smith Real Estate before his retirement. He was also a former member of the York Jaycees, York Rotary Club, and York Chamber of Commerce, as well as former co-chair and charter member of the Yorkville Historical Society, co-chair of York’s Bicentennial Committee, and Secretary for the York County Natural Gas Authority Board of Directors.
