Mr. Charles Gerald Smith, age 91, of York, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his daughter Teresa’s home.
Born on September 17, 1934, in York, South Carolina, Charles was the son of the late Benjamin L. Smith and Violet L. Quinn Smith. He was the husband of the late Bonnie Mae Williams Smith. Charles was a retired self-employed plumber and a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served aboard the USS Newport News (CA-148).
Charles had a deep love for racing pigeons and took great pride in raising, feeding, and caring for them. He belonged to multiple racing clubs including the Filbert club and placed at the top quite often.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Traenkner (Scott), Mary Angela Landi (Segundi), Marlon Smith, Gary Willis (Deborah), and Keith Willis (Barbara); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frankie Willis; and his siblings, Harold Smith, Sylvia Craig, Ben Smith, Eugene Smith, and Robert Smith.
