Arthur “Dick” W. Yarnell 86, of York, SC passed away peacefully Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Hospice and Community Care (Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House), Rock Hill, SC.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 2 pm in the sanctuary at Sharon Baptist Church, located at 3850 York Street, Sharon, SC with Pastor Joshua Woolbright officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the Church Family Life Center. The burial will be private.
Dick was born on October 28, 1938, in Knoxville, TN to the late Arthur W. and Marion S. Yarnell. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked for his father at Hagens Paint Company in Delray Beach, Florida. He married the love of his life and started his own construction company. In 1973 he moved his family to York, SC. He continued working in construction, started GSC Construction Company and retired in 2004. After retirement, he continued using his skills to help family and friends with many construction/painting projects. He helped build the Family Life Center at Sharon Baptist Church, where he was a member for 52 years. He loved golfing, working in the yard and cooking for his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elaine Lucia Calloway Yarnell; his daughters, Glenda Helton (Mark) and Cheri Edmunds (Bill); his grandchildren, Heather Brown (Jon), Brittany Johnson (Ben); Evan Edmunds (Adair), Adam Edmunds, Sam Edmunds (Claire); his great-granddaughters, Madison Brown, Amelia Johnson, and Lucia Johnson; his sister, Patsy Joffrion (Don); his brother-in-law, Dick Moody and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his son Steven Yarnell and his sister Dorothy Moody.
